    Welcome to TIS!

Guidance and Student Support

We are committed to providing the best services we can to all students. We recognize that students may have particular issues that need to be addressed outside of regular classroom activities. The following list of services are available at the Tarrant Intermediate School. Please contact your teacher if you feel like your child may be in need of such services.

Student Support

The student support programs at our school offer different services for students that will help them to be successful learners. We know that children who feel comfortable at school and have good relationships with their peers and teachers are able to focus on their daily work to a great extent. Student support programs offer assistance in these areas:

  • Classroom guidance and instruction in social skills, conflict resolution, time management, study skills and many more topics
  • Individual and group problem solving
  • Crisis response

The Leader in Me

The TIS staff is committed to providing a safe and nurturing learning environment for all students. We are introducting students to the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People through a program for schools  called "The Leader In Me" http://www.theleaderinme.org/.
Here is an overview of the 7 Habits, taken from the book "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People" by Stephen Covey:

  • Habit 1: Be Proactive® • You're in Charge
  • Habit 2: Begin With the End in Mind® • Have a Plan
  • Habit 3: Put First Things First® • Work First, Then Play
  • Habit 4: Think Win-Win® • Everyone Can Win
  • Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood® • Listen Before You Talk
  • Habit 6: Synergize® • Together Is Better
  • Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw® • Balance Feels Best

Problems/Concerns

If you have a problem or concern involving your child's education, please schedule a conference with the teacher. If the problem or concern continues, contact the principal for assistance. We encourage you to stay abreast of district business. School Board meetings are held monthly on Tuesday evenings. All regular meetings are open to public participation.

Guidance/Counseling Services

Counseling services are available at our school, if needed, to increase your child's success. Services include individual, group or classroom guidance, and cover a variety of issues such as development of a positive self-image, anger management, effective communication skills, friendship/social skills, and dealing with issues such as death, divorce and abuse. Students may be referred by a staff member, a parent or themselves. Our counselor is available for consultation with parents and outside service providers (if you request this service and sign a consent for exchange of information) in order to better serve the students.

Cyber Bullying

We are excited to now offer the CyberBullyHotline. This is a service that provides students with a phone number they may call or text to report bullying. The service hides the student's phone number, replacing it with a simple number ID, providing anonymity to students, so they may report bullying behavior safely. The students' phone calls or texts will be checked daily and responded to as needed, all without revealing their identities. Information is being sent home in the coming week, so please look over it and discuss with your son or daughter.
